We would like to point out that we do not claim any of the assets as our own, including the branding for our website. All credit goes to Rare Ltd. Microsoft, and Disney.
We do not have the intention to steal, profit off of, or leak any content with any of the assets we release.
All assets we release have either been released by Rare or Microsoft on a variety of their platforms (the Sea of Thieves website, forums, or social channels), or assets we’ve collected throughout the years, building up the database.
The goal of Compass was at first to create an asset database to appreciate the art style of the game, but over time, as interest for the project grew, it became about compiling assets from all across the seas, for not only anyone who shared our original interest, but those who needed assets for their own ambitions or projects. Since we are not a Sea of Thieves partner nor does this database have any involvement with Rare, we do our best to provide assets as quick as possible for aspiring partners as well.
None of the assets we release "data-mined" or riped from the game files.
Music and SFX for example are recorded live from the game, cleaned using a vvariety of open source and custom tools, and then released for download. We also use a custom audio mixer to combine certain audio elements together for certian releases, such as ambience tracks and other releases on our YouTube channel.
Imagery is much simplier. We colllect images from all across the internet from many, many different sources--primarily from the Sea of Thieves website. Any images we collect from the game are screenshotted and are scaled to a suitable quality.
If an Asset Pack contains imagery, audio, or otherwise that was not recorded or created by us or from the SoT website, then there will be a banner crediting where we collected the assets from. Please note, this may not be the original creator of the assets. We cite meerly where we found it, but we try to cite the original source if possible.
To reiterate, audio recorded by Compass from the game will not be credited because almost every pack would be credited with that. Similarly, imagery from the SoT website will not be credited due to the sheer number of packs this covers.
We will also credit anyone who helped us get those assets. This can be through the assets submission process or through other means, such as helping as record something in-game.
