Compass July 2024 Development Update

Ahoy everyone!

So, what's been going on since April? It has been a couple of very busy months. As I discussed in the last update, I've been working through a series of projects related to the backend of Compass. There's a lot of systems in place to help me collect assets, but since the beginning of the year I've needed to make a series of improvements to them.

Most of the smaller ones have come to an end now, including the first half of a website update in May. However, since the end of May I've been working on the last project I needed to complete to close off this phase of development. I'm only a week or two away from having that project completed. Once that is done I'll be back to regular updates like we used to have!

One of the goals for Phase 9--the next part of development starting in the Fall--is to grow Compass. That means more updates than ever before. It will only be possible for me to do that now that these projects are complete. It'll be great to take a set back from the work I've been doing for the last 7 months to focus on new areas of the project. That means fufilling asset requests, releasing new types of assets, and more that will be revealed soon. I'll be sharing more details about Phase 9 in the next development update in October.

This is my rought timeline:

• August
  • Complete remaining backend and API work
  • Refresh the site with all the new assets since April
  • Start fufilling asset requests
• September
  • Make some neccessary organization improvements
  • Release a wide variety of assets for the first time
• October
  • Be ready to have an awesome release for Season 14!

One final special announcement: Tomorrow marks 4 years since the very first update to Compass released. This is an amazing milestone, and while I know it still feels like we're just getting started, I can safely say that I am the most excited for the future of Compass than ever before!
